Mardi Gras in the Village

Ok just a quick post. Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday here this week and yet another reason for the Eisner touring party to head out and sample NYC's nightlife. This time we headed down into the heart of Greenwich Village to the Town Tavern. The kind Tavern folk offered 2 for 1 Hurricanes - a concoction of spirits and juice which sort of tasted like petrol.

As a fun night wound down, it wasn't long until the fumes got to me and I became severely distressed that I had completely overlooked the political incorrectness of the drink that had been my downfall. How could I have enjoyed so many "Hurricanes" in full knowledge that New Orleans - the home of the Mardi Gras - had been ravaged by a catastrophe bearing that same name not so long ago. As I collapsed into bed, I was disgusted with myself and with the bar that had served me them. My sleep was dominated by nightmares featuring Harry Connick Jnr chasing me whilst singing "I just whispered your name". And then Sean Penn rescued me in his dingy before turning into the nutbag guitar player he played in Sweet and Lowdown. That freaked me out the most. Then Kayne West appeared and said "Nick Bull doesn't care about..." I won't go any further.

Thankfully my fears were allayed the next morning by Welshman Robbie Williams who informed me that the profits from each Hurricane sold went to a Katrina reflief fund. I breathed a sigh of relief - thankful I could listen to Harry Connick Jnr again without fear off repercussion.
